AI is not going to kill all of us

AI is not going to kill all of us.

It's going to help a lot of us escape the tedium that handcuffs our best work. It takes over the things that hold us back, and leaves people more room for the creativity and ingenuity nobody can replace.

The story from the big AI companies that this technology is going to end us is mostly marketing. It drives the regulation conversation, and they want to be the ones writing the regulations.

Why would they want that?

Because the open models are catching up fast. The future doesn't have to run through OpenAI or Anthropic. It can look a lot more free and a lot more locally hosted, if we let it.

So don't buy the hype, and be skeptical of anything the big companies say about their own field. They have a lot to lose if the open models get too good.
